Security guard shot dead


PETALING JAYA: A security guard who had been working at a goldsmith shop for more than 20 years died after he was shot by robbers.

During the heist at around 3.45pm yesterday, P. Krishnan, 43, was in the jewellery shop in Jalan Othman here when three men wearing full-face helmets barged in.

One of the men whipped out a pistol and fired at the unarmed security guard twice.

Using axes, the other two men then broke open the glass showcase and grabbed the jewellery before fleeing on their motorcycles.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said Krishnan was rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre but died while receiving treatment at about 6pm.

“He suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and arm,” he said yesterday.

The robbers' motorcycles were later found abandoned in Jalan Carey, 1.4km from the crime scene.

ACP Arjunaidi said CCTV footage from the shop had been acquired and urged anyone with information to contact its hotline at 03-2052 9999 or the nearest police station.
