Shafie: Don’t harbour ill-feelings over selection

KUANTAN: Umno leaders and members have been advised not to have ill-feelings if their chosen candidates are not fielded in the general election, said party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

While they want their favourites to be chosen, the final decision rests with the party president, he added.

“We have to make sacrifices for the party's sake. Personal feelings should be put aside and loyalty to the party should be paramount,” he said after opening the Kuantan Umno division meeting yesterday.

Shafie said party president and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be wise enough to field winnable candidates.

He said it was normal for the Barisan component parties to demand for certain seats when the elections were around the corner.

On the Opposition's plan to table an anti-hopping law, Shafie said they were being hypocritical because they did not oppose Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Sept 16 plan to get Barisan Nasional MPs to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat.
