Malaysians can meet Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “face to face”
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians will get the chance to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge "face to face' when the royal couple visits the country from Sept 13 to 16 in celebration of the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Prince William and Duchess Kate are scheduled to, among others, go on a walkabout at the KLCC park on the second day of their visit, said British High Commissioner to Malaysia Simon Featherstone.
"Here, the public will get a glimpse of the royal couple who will experience the richness and diversity of Malaysian culture beneath the iconic Petronas Twin Towers," he told a press conference, here, Monday.
He said Malaysians were also set to be the first people outside Britain to hear the Duchess make a speech in public.
"She will deliver the speech during their visit to Hospis Malaysia. This is only the Duchess' second public speech and her first outside the UK," he said, adding that the Duchess was also scheduled to witness the launch of a health programme at the organisation.
Hospis Malaysia is a charitable organisation that offers professional palliative care to people suffering from life-limiting illnesses. Featherstone said Prince William would also deliver a public speech, underscoring the importance of UK-Malaysia ties and prosperity at a luncheon organised by the British-Malaysian Chamber of Commerce.
Their Royal Highnesses other engagements in Malaysia include attendance at an official dinner hosted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the Istana Negara and a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Seri Perdana, on the first day of their visit.
"Their Royal Highnesses will depart for Sabah on the second day after a Diamond Jubilee Tea Party at the High Commissioner's residence here," he said.
Featherstone said that in the Danum Valley in Sabah, they would learn about the conservation efforts of the Royal Society, of which the Duke is a Fellow.
The visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Malaysia is part of the royal couple's tour to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen's reign.
After Malaysia, their Royal Highnesses will leave for the Solomon Islands (Sept 16 to 18) and Tuvalu (Sept 18 to 19) - Bernama
