KOTA KINABALU: A labourer who was part of a group that caused the death of a man who had tried to rape his sister was sentenced to one year in jail by the Sandakan Sessions Court.

Alung Husin pleaded guilty after being charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt to Mosran Sogeng on Aug 3.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Supt Dominic Chew told the court that the accused Alung had returned home at about 1.30pm on that day when he heard some noise from an area near the chicken coop behind his house.

Alung went to check and heard his sister screaming while trying to fend off a man later identified as Mosran.

Court judge Umu Kalthom Abdul Samad heard that Alung grabbed Mosran and pulled him away from his sister and punched him in the shoulders and chest.

Neighbours, who had heard the commotion, came and also got involved in the assault on Mosran.

Mosran was later rushed to the hospital but died shortly after.

Chew said police were still looking for the other men who were involved in the attack on Mosran.
