Shahrizat hopes for increase in Wanita Umno polls candidates

HULU TERENGGANU: Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil hopes the number of candidates from the wing will increase in the coming general election.
She said the list of names had been given to Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
"I hope the number of Wanita candidates will at least double the number fielded in 2008.
"The contribution of women in politics must be recognised as we are the backbone of the party," she told pressmen after launching the Hulu Terengganu Wanita Umno meeting here.
Shahrizat believed that women voters would be vital in the elections.
"No doubt their votes will go to Barisan Nasional.
"The government has done a lot to ensure the participation of women in multiple sectors, it is a testament of the sweat and tears of Wanita Umno as well," she said.
