The festivities, held at Dataran Merdeka, was even more special with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and the Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah gracing the event.

Despite the cloudy sky and drizzle, some 10,000 people from all walks of life came to enjoy traditional Malay cuisines such as satay, lemang and rendang. A police band entertained the crowd with live music.

Ismail said the event was historic as it was the first time both uniformed institutions held their Hari Raya celebrations together. "We are pleased to see the large turn out of people. It shows that the rakyat is able to gather in peace and harmony to celebrate the festivities," he said.

Zulkefili said the event was aimed not only at fostering closer ties between the two institutions but to build a closer bond with the rakyat.

"The initiative to hold the joint celebrations is part of the armed forces and police effort to foster closers ties between the two institutions while getting closer the rakyat," he said. Ismail and Zulkefili also presented goodies to the less fortunate and orphans.
