Li brings videogame character to life in Resident Evil
PETALING JAYA: Chinese actress Li Bingbing said being in Malaysia felt like coming home.
“I first came to Malaysia to promote Silver Hawk with Michelle Yeoh,” she said at a press conference to promote her latest Hollywood flick Resident Evil: Retribution.
Li even addressed the local media in Malay, saying: Selamat datang! Apa khabar? Saya Li Bingbing. (Welcome! How are you? I am Li Bingbing.)
The fifth instalment of the series sees Li playing secret agent Ada Wong, a popular videogame character from the Resident Evil franchise.
The character has been described as one of gaming's hottest babes.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Resident Evil: Retribution stars Milla Jovovich and was filmed in Canada late last year.
Apart from having to brush up on her English for the role, Li also had to make several trips as she was filming another movie in China, a romantic comedy titled Wo Yuan Yi (I Do) where she plays the main character.
Li said she felt there could have been more action sequences but the movie producers were not aware that she could actually fight well.
“Having worked with many top Chinese action stars and stunt choreographers, I have no problem with action scenes,” she said.
However, she admitted she had never shot a gun before and enjoyed the firearms training she received for the movie.
Li, 39, also graced the red carpet premiere of Resident Evil: Retribution at Sunway Pyramid where she met fans on Friday.
Resident Evil: Retribution is available in 3D and opens in local cinemas on Sept 13.
