PM: Malaysia to host 2020 Apec summit

VLADIVOSTOK (Eastern Russia): Malaysia is set to host the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) leaders' summit in 2020 some 22 years after doing so for the first time.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak confirmed that Malaysia was scheduled to host the meeting then.
"It just happens to be our turn but it's a very auspicious year for us," he said to the Malaysian media covering the summit here on Sunday.
Next year, the summit will be held in Bali, Indonesia, in 2014 it will be in China while the Philippines and Peru will host in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Malaysia has also accepted the invitation of the US to host the Global Entrepreneurs Summit next year.
"I accepted the offer to host this summit during my bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Meanwhile, the Apec 2012 Leaders' Week came to an end Sunday, with the 21 leaders of the regional economic forum issuing a joint declaration of their renewed and strengthened commitment to drive the region's prosperity and leadership in the global economy.
They had put forward and agreed to a host of concrete measures and programmes aimed at a continued regime of free trade, better supply chain mechanisms and the encouragement of innovation.
Apec 2012 Summit host, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, held a media conference for all the journalists covering the summit.
