SHAH ALAM: A semi-retired accountant's new year got off to a great start when he won two highly-coveted Business Class return air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to London, worth RM15,000 each, on Malaysia Airlines newly-introduced A380 aircraft.
Yap Kien Guan, 60, who lives in Petaling Jaya, was announced the grand prize winner of the London On Us contest at the prize presentation ceremony at Malaysia Airlines Academy here yesterday.
“My lifelong dream of travelling around the world is coming true. I really did not expect to win anything, much less the grand prize!” said Yap, who has travelled to countries such as Hong Kong, Europe, Thailand and the Philippines.
When asked who will be his lucky companion, he replied: “I plan to travel to London with my beloved wife S.E. Ong (who is 59).”
Yap said he owed the win to his son Samuel Yap, 23, a chemical engineer, who helped him to complete the trivia contest online within five seconds, the fastest time recorded for the contest.
Also present were nine winners of the 12 O'Clock Rock Contest that required customers to complete their online flight booking at exactly 12.12pm Malaysian time on Dec 12.
The contest saw winners getting reimbursed for the exact amount they forked out for the flight tickets.
Other winners were from the Tourism Australia Contest, Tourism New Zealand Contest and Pay Iphone Giveaways contests.
MAS senior vice-president for Malaysia Muzammil Mohamad said the contests were held in conjunction with its 40th anniversary to reward passengers for their continuous support, which saw MAS winning accolades, including 5-Star Airline and Best Cabin Staff for 2012.
“Customers will be spoilt for choice when MAS joins forces with Oneworld Alliance from Feb 1 as they can now choose from over 800 destinations across the globe in more than 150 countries compared to the 60 destinations that we offered previously,” he said.
“Avid travellers should also stay tuned for our latest promotion to local destinations, which runs from Jan 3 to Jan 17.” he added.
Satay, which was voted as Best Signature Airline Dish of the year by passengers, was served for lunch at the event.
