Revellers have a blast in Golden Triangle

Girls just wanna have fun: Revellers spraying each other with artificial snow at the stroke of midnight. KUALA LUMPUR: It was a raucous start to the New Year in the city's Golden Triangle as thousands of revellers blew vuvuzelas and air horns in merriment.
Gathering along Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang, the crowd was entertained by various performances at the Sungei Wang street party.
Sabahan Amy Liew, 17, said she would travel annually to the city with her father Alex, 43, just to celebrate the New Year.
“I come to this place because it's very happening,” she said, describing this year's celebration as livelier than those in the past.
Mohd Fakaruddin, 17, was celebrating the New Year after having just completed his SPM.
“I'm so relieved and happy. I hope I can find a new job next year,” he said.
However, it seemed that not everyone who turned up came to party.
Medical clerk Niroshan Ronny, 21, decided to venture into Bukit Bintang during the New Year celebration for the year-end sales.
“I'm here at Sungai Wang Plaza to get myself a new shirt,” he said, adding that he hoped to receive a salary raise in the New Year.
Also hoping for a bright New Year were three friends, who grabbed the limelight during a street performance with their LED lighting decorated costumes.
“We hope 2013 will be the year we have opportunities to make more money,” said one of them, known only as John.
In PUTRAJAYA, thousands gathered along the boulevard in Persiaran Perdana to welcome the new year.
The crowd, which had gathered as early as 6pm, were treated to a parade and brass band. There was also a motorcade.
Local singers Datuk M. Nasir, Jamal Abdillah, Mizz Nina and bands Hujan and Wings later took to the stage while AmBank Group staff entertained the audience with an AmBank Gangnam Style dance.
At the stroke of midnight, a 10-minute fireworks display lit up the federal administrative centre's skyline.
The event was organised by the AmBank Group for the eighth time.
