Cop’s son and in-house guard jailed for drugs


GEORGE TOWN: An in-house detective and a policeman’s son were each jailed five years and ordered to be given 10 strokes of the rotan after they pleaded guilty in a High Court here to a reduced drug charge.

Book store in-house detective Mohd Aqib Mohd Yusof, 22, and Mohamad Syahmi Mohd Farid, 23, admitted having 960g of cannabis in a car parked behind Block 399, Taman Dato Syed Abbas in Jelutong here at 3am on Feb 21 last year.

Human resources officer Mohd Nor Haddi Makhtar, 26, who was jointly charged with them, also pleaded guilty and was jailed six years.

Judicial Commissioner Mohd Amin Firdaus Abdullah also ordered Nor Haddi to be whipped 10 times.

He ordered the trio to serve their jail terms from the date of their arrest on Feb 21 last year.

There was, however, joy for the family of National Sports Council officer Mohamad Fariq Suhaimi who was freed by the court.

Mohamad Fariq, 23, who had been jointly charged with the three acc­used, had the charge against him withdrawn.
