KLANG: A 33-year-old woman was dragged for almost six metres during a snatch theft, leaving her with cuts and bruises all over her body.

Vocals teacher Lai Mei Ying said two men on a motorcycle struck from behind her in Taman Eng Ann here while she was walking to her car after classes at her centre along Jalan Gagak Tua at about 1pm on Tuesday.

“I heard the motorcycle behind me but I did not think much of it as I just wanted to get into my car.

“Suddenly, I felt a sharp pull on my sling bag and the next thing I remembered I was being dragged.

“Luckily, passers-by came to my aid and offered me a phone to call my husband,” said Lai, who suffered injuries mainly to her hands, legs and lower back.

Speaking to reporters yesterday at social activist Peter Tan’s house, she said she could not identify the type of motorcycle or its registration number.

Lai lost RM4,000 in cash, a cellphone, personal documents and several credit and ATM cards.

After seeking medical attention, Lai lodged a report at the Sungai Kapar police station two hours later.

According to Tan, there had been a number of snatch theft cases in Taman Eng Ann despite the presence of police in the area.
