Couple with guns nabbed in Cheras
Loaded find: SAC Ku (left) and Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohan Singh (second from left) showing the two guns which were seized after police stopped a couple in a Kia Forte for a routine check. KUALA LUMPUR: A couple out driving with their six-month-old baby girl were arrested after police found two loaded guns in their car's glove compartment.
Personnel in a police patrol car spotted the couple driving their car near Taman Segar, Cheras, at around 5.30pm on Monday and stopped them for a routine check.
The baby was on the rear seat.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the policemen were shocked to find two loaded handguns a Luger 9mm and a .38 Smith and Wesson wrapped in cloth in the glove compartment.
“The couple were immediately arrested and the guns seized,” he told reporters at the city police headquarters here yesterday.
Further checks, said SAC Ku, revealed that the 49-year-old man was also wanted for a case of voluntarily causing harm.
Both the man and the 31-year-old woman had been remanded until Friday, he said.
In another case, SAC Ku said police found an imitation gun dumped outside a budget hotel in Sri Petaling on Tuesday while investigating the theft of a Macbook Pro laptop stolen from a car recently.
“We were about to raid the budget hotel when we came across the two black bags, containing the laptop and an imitation Pietro Beretta gun,” he said, adding that a man suspected in the case had dumped the items before fleeing.
Based on CCTV footage, he said police believed that the man had been staying at the hotel with a woman but fled upon getting wind of the raid.
SAC Ku urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station.
