5.7 magnitude quake hits northern Sumatra
KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit northern Sumatra in Indonesia at 9.47pm Thursday.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the location of the quake was 101km southwest of Banda Aceh in Indonesia and 554km southwest of Langkawi, Kedah.
The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, the statement added. - Bernama
