PETALING JAYA: The Government will make good on its promises to extend cash aid under the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 and the disbursement of RM100 to students from next week.

Beginning Tuesday, parents with children in Year One to Form Five can collect the RM100. The BR1M 2.0 payments are expected to begin next month.

The handouts are among goodies announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when tabling the Budget last Septem-ber.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said 4.3 million households and 2.7 million single individuals were expected to benefit from BR1M 2.0 with the RM3bil allocation.

The Government, he said, had received about 2.68 million new applications for BR1M 2.0, of which 1.8 million were single.

“We will distribute the payout next month,” he added.

Last year, the Government made a one-off payment of RM500 to households with income of less than RM3,000 a month.

Under BR1M 2.0, similar aid would be extended to unmarried individuals who are above 21 years old and earning less than RM2,000.

Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zakarshi said the disbursement of the RM100 to parents with school-going children would take about a month with the Government spending RM540mil.

“About five million students from national and government-aided schools will benefit from this,” he said.

The ministry, added Dr Mohd Puad, was currently collecting data from sekolah agama rakyat, state-run religious schools and private schools.

This is the second year that the Government has given RM100 to students to help ease the burden on their parents.
