Three violations of rally rules, says Dangi Wangi police chief

The rally participants gather outside Stadium Merdeka after the stadium was filled up KUALA LUMPUR: Except for two elderly men who fainted, the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat rally at Stadium Merdeka went with no untoward incident and with minimal police presence, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad said.
ACP Zainuddin told a press conference after the rally that police set up 40 beat points within a 1km radius of the stadium to control traffic flow with some 200 personnel on duty.
“The police managed to conduct its duties thoroughly while ensuring that the rally went smoothly.
“We did not make any arrest, however, there were two cases of elderly men who fainted because of the packed Stadium Merdeka,” he said at the Media Centre.
ACP Zainuddin said police would investigate three violations of the rules - prohibiting the participants from bringing children below the age of 15, waving placards and banners with seditious words; and compelling the organiser to ensure that no more than 30,000 people were participating in the rally.
He said the conditions were among the 27 police conditions agreed to by the organiser in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“We will investigate the offences but nonetheless we consider that the rally took place in a peaceful manner.
“We achieve our goal of having zero casualty," he said attributing the success to a new standard operating procedure.
