Klang traders happy to receive PM on his walkabout
KLANG: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s visit to several shops along Jalan Tengku Kelana here brought smiles all around as traders felt honoured to receive the Prime Minister in his first walkabout in the area.
Najib, together with his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, spent about an hour meeting the locals here and chatted with them.
When they stopped by at the Sri Kumaran’s saree shop, the couple admired the material on sale.
Sri Kumaran’s managing director N. Radhakrishnan said the silk was from South India.
Radhakrishnan said he was very happy and proud that the couple stopped by at his shop.
“Najib looked around my shop and praised it for being very spacious and beautiful,” he said, adding that the Prime Minister also wished him Happy Ponggal.
Najib and Rosmah then stopped for lunch at the Archana Curry House, where they were served tosai, vadai, puri and chapati.
The restaurant’s owner S. Subramaniam said Najib particularly enjoyed the mutton and chicken peratal, a dish that comes with dry curry.
“He praised the food we served to him, saying that it was very nice and represented typical South Indian cuisine,” said the 53-year-old at his shop here yesterday.
His wife, G. Visalakshi, 51, said they were very surprised when they were told three days ago that Najib would be having lunch at their restaurant.
“We decorated our shop like a ballroom to give him a warm welcome. We are very proud that he decided to drop by,” she said.
