PETALING JAYA: A new Twitter star was born during the Opposition-organised KL 112 rally on Saturday.

Part-time model Shasha Mendoza became an overnight cyber sensation after her pro-government tweets received brickbats from pro-opposition netizens.

She had tweeted: “Dear #KL112 supporters, if you don’t like Malaysia, you can get out of Malaysia. At least appreciate what gov has done.

“Anwar promised to give free education for the people. All of them are lies. Where will Anwar get millions of money to pay for the millions of the rakyat’s debt. Think.”

This did not go down well with some opposition supporters, who attacked her on the social media site.

A certain XHakimMazlanX, tweeted back: “I am sure you are stupid because you only watch TV3 news.”

However, the 19-year-old university student said the vicious criticisms would not affect her nor change her stand on the Barisan Nasional.

“I do not mind being attacked by the pro-opposition supporters. I will stand strong and will still support the Government.

“Our Government has provided the people with necessary help, including good education, easy access to health facilities and special allowance for the needy.

“Some people do not realise this,” she told The Star yesterday.

Shasha said she was not under pressure to delete any of her tweets, adding: “We are living in a peaceful and harmonious country with a stable economy because of the Government’s policies.

“Of course, some of the policies may not be perfect but I believe we are living in a country that is so blessed.”

Asked if she planned to join politics, she said she was interested but it would only be after she turned 21 and had completed her studies.

On whether she posted the tweets to gain attention and followers, Shasha replied: “Haters gonna hate. Even before this I have had more than 5,800 followers.

“I’m not desperate for (new) followers. Just stating the facts about Barisan.”
