Call to set up BN operations room in every polling district
GEORGE TOWN: Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan has reminded the Barisan Nasional election machinery to open an operations room in each polling district in the country by Feb 1.
He said Prime Minister and Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had issued the directive last week.
“The operations rooms of the polling districts should be opened by Feb 1. That's the latest directive from the party's top leadership,” he told reporters after visiting the Permatang Damar Laut polling district here yesterday.
Shophouses and community halls which had served as operations rooms could be utilised while new ones must be opened where there were no such operations rooms, he said.
“The important thing is that the operations rooms must start functioning on Feb 1,” he said.
Ahmad said an operations room served as the centre of the party election machinery for the upcoming 13th general election.
He said there were 7,531 polling districts throughout the country and he would visit each of the operations rooms in these areas.
Earlier, Ahmad, who is a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, received 700 application forms of new members of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) in Batu Kawan.
He welcomed the new members and said it showed the increasing support for Barisan from the people and raised the confidence of the coalition in winning back Penang.
“This is a sign of the BN gaining support. Every day, we are increasing the membership of Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP ... this is a very good sign,” he said. - Bernama
