Police trace last two fugitives in Penanti
KEPALA BATAS: Penang police have traced the last two fugitives, who escaped from the court complex last Monday, Hamzani Harun, 37, and Hisham Abdul Rahman, 39, at Kampung Pelet, Penanti near here.
State police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said they had been tipped off by local residents, who saw the duo buying food in the village about 5.30pm, but the men had run off into the jungle by the time police arrived at the scene.
"I ordered a team of 28 General Operations Force personnel to search the jungle," he said after a meeting with police personnel involved in the tracking operation, here Monday.
He said the police have shifted their focus to Penanti and Kubang Semang now as they believed the two fugitives were still hiding there.
"We've moved our operations from the Tasek Gelugor police station to Kubang Semang and believe we'll nab them very soon," he added.
On Saturday, police picked up Mohd Farid Akhtar, 24, at a restaurant in Kampung Petani, Kubang Semang; Mohd Shahrimi Mohd Noor, 28, surrendered when he was sighted by police at the Penanti market while Mohd Khairulnizam Abdul Rani, 26, was caught in an internet cafe in Berapit, Bukit Mertajam on Sunday morning. - Bernama
