KUCHING: A labourer was robbed of more than RM6,000 by a man whom he had just met.
Ibrahim Piee, 30, from Kampung Tungkah Melayu Sebangan in Simunjan, said that he wished to buy a car through his newly met friend, known only as Kiong who told him that a friend of his had one that was for sale.
Ibrahim then went with Kiong to Batu Kawah here around 12.40pm on Saturday to meet the seller, who took the two for a ride to Jalan Kampung Kudei afterwards.
“Upon reaching there, however, Kiong suddenly asked the driver to stop the car. A few minutes later, four man came to the car and held me down. They demanded money from me,” he said.
When Ibrahim said he had none, two of the men brandished machetes and used them to threaten him.
It was then that Kiong went over to Ibrahim and searched his sling bag, which contained over RM6,000 that was supposed to be used for the downpayment of the car.
“Kiong took the money and ordered me to get out of their sight in one minute, or else they would kill me,” he claimed.
Fearing for his safety, Ibrahim fled. After that, he went to Satok station to lodge a police report.
Meanwhile, a woman was attacked and robbed near a supermarket near Jalan Song Kheng Hai on Saturday.
At around 9.30pm, Resni Kawa, 38, who was renting an apartment near Jalan Padungan, was chatting with her sister on the phone when two men on a motorcycle approached her from behind.
She said one of them held her while the other grabbed her handbag.
Resni tried to fight back but her effort further enraged the robbers, who then punched and kicked her.
After that, the two bolted, taking with them RM2,000 and a mobile phone that were in Resni’s handbag.
Resni lodged a report at Padungan station afterwards.
