Remaining two fugitives spotted in Prai

BUTTERWORTH: The remaining two fugitives have been spotted in Chai Leng Park, Prai, making a phone call.

Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the duo - Hamzani Harun, 37, and Hisham Abdul Rahman, 39, - were spotted outside a public phone booth at about 6pm Monday.

"Following a tip-off, our officers rushed to the phone booth, but the men had fled the place.

"We took fingerprint samples from the site and are still pursuing them," he told reporters after opening a Motorised Patrolling Unit (CBU) programme at SK Pauh Jaya, Seberang Jaya here Tuesday.

DCP Abdul Rahim said the men were dressed in normal clothes and did not wear any facial disguise.

He said police have since widened the search area covering Permatang Pauh and Prai.

He urged those with information of the whereabouts of the criminals to contact the nearest police station immediately.

The duo were among seven detainees who escaped in a police van at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) after throwing curry powder to temporarily blind their guards on Jan 7.

They being taken to the Butterworth court complex to be charged with armed robbery under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, when they escaped.

Two have since been caught, one surrendered himself to the police and two were killed.
