Kedah lifts ban on female performers, sticks to dress code

By EMBUN MAJID

ALOR SETAR: The PAS-led Kedah state government has defended its guidelines for outdoor entertainment but lifted its ban on women performing in stage shows.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, in a statement Tuesday, said event organisers must ensure that all male and female performers, whether children or adult, were appropriately and decently dressed.

The brief statement came after state exco member Datuk Dr Hamdan Mohamed Khalib cancelled his press conference on the issue earlier in the morning.

The controversial directive dated Jan 9 was issued to a shopping complex here which was planning a "1Malaysia Chinese New Year Celebration" on Feb 15.
