Worker in Kota Samarahan found dead with throat slit

KUCHING: An elderly contract worker was found dead in a pool of blood with his throat slit at a construction site in Taman Samarindah, Kota Samarahan near here early yesterday.

Colleagues discovered his body and immediately alerted the police.

Kota Samarahan acting police chief ASP Mohd Ibrahim Jalaludin confirmed the case and said police received a distress call about 7.25am and immediately dispatched an investigating team to the scene.

The deceased was identified as 62-year-old Tan Hong Pheng from Jalan Green here, who was employed to guard a temporary storeroom for construction materials, located on the ground floor of a three-storey shoplot, which is under construction.

Initial investigations indicated that he was murdered.

Several items, including a television and the victim’s sling bag, were missing from the storeroom.

Police suspected that Tan was killed more than six hours ago.

His body was later sent to the Sarawak General Hospital mortuary in a police truck.

The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
