Booze and firecrackers seized
Busted: ASP Baharim (left) inspecting the seized items at the Anti-Smuggling Unit Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam. ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP) has seized beer cans and firecrackers worth about RM3,000.
The items were believed to have been smuggled into the country for sale during the Chinese New Year celebrations next month.
Bukit Kayu Hitam UPP commander ASP Baharim Kamis said the contraband items were found inside a car driven by a 22-year-old man at Jalan Putra Air Itam here at about 1.30pm on Wednesday.
He said the Bukit Kayu Hitam UPP enforcement team was on routine patrol when they spotted a heavily tinted car travelling towards Alor Setar.
The car was stopped.
Upon inspection, the enforcement officers found the backseats missing.
In its place, there were beer cans and firecrackers in the empty compartment.
“We found 30 crates of beer and different types of firecrackers,” ASP Baharim told a press conference here yesterday.
