Muhyiddin: Schools must push a sports culture

ALABAMA: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said schools in Malaysia needed to be more innovative in inculcating a sports culture in line with the 1 Student, 1 Sport policy.

Admitting this was easier for schools that already had a good sports infrastructure, Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said it was not beyond schools that did not have this infrastructure to push a sports culture that people could be proud of.

"Schools without good sports infrastructure can excel in cross country runs or other suitable sports, make use of facilities made available by the local authorities, at neighbouring schools or universities.

"It is up to the wisdom of the leadership of the school to find facilities and ways to promote sports," he told Malaysian journalists covering his two-day working visit to Alabama, the United States, here Saturday. - Bernama
