Liow: Online braces may contain lead
BENTONG: Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai urged the public to refrain from buying braces for teeth online as they were suspected of containing lead.
"Based on initial information, the braces sold online are made with lead, which can cause health problems, such as colon cancer," he said.
"So it's better to get advice from a dentist and use braces which are recognised by them," he told reporters after opening the Bentong Senior Citizen Activity Centre, in conjunction with the district level Senior Citizen Day, here on Saturday.
Also present was Pahang Local Government, Environment and Health Committee chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun.
On a separate development, Liow, who is Bentong member of parliament, said the Ministry was studying a proposal to reduce the level of tar in cigarettes from 20mg to 10mg and nicotine from 1.5mg to 1mg, for the local market. - Bernama
