Hawker killed in accident 30 minutes before New Year
YAN: A hawker was killed 30 minutes before the start of the New Year when he lost control of his vehicle and rammed it into a roadside tree.
The force of the collision broke the car into two.
The subsequent impact also flung the front part of the car into a nearby canal here at Batu 11, Jalan Kota Sarang Semut-Sungai Petani trunk road at around 11.30pm on Monday.
The deceased, Mohammed Syawal Ismail, 23, from Taman Kota Sarang Semut had plans to marry in December.
Divers from the Fire and Rescue Department later found the deceased slumped in the driver’s seat as the front part of the car was submerged in the canal.
Syawal was believed to have died from severe head injuries.
Yan OCPD Deputy Supt Ismail Abu confirmed the incident and said there was a possibility that the car had skidded as a downpour had occurred in the area.
