PSC: More non-Malays applying to join civil service

PUTRAJAYA: More non-Malays have shown interest in joining the civil service, according to statistics compiled by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Commission chairman Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said there was an 77% increase in applications received from the Chinese community between June to December last year, compared with the same period in 2011.

Chinese applicants made 11,848 applications out of the overall 631,692 job applications received by the PSC in the second half of last year.

"There was also an increase of 79% in applications from the Indian community (from 12,009 to 21,481 applications).

"Other races, including those from Sabah and Sarawak, also showed an encouraging increase, jumping from 58,346 to 103,348 applications," Mahmood said in a press conference at the PSC office here Wednesday.
