Flood situation in Rompin worsens

ROMPIN: The flood situation in Pahang has taken a turn for the worse with more victims being evacuated in Rompin district due to continuous rain since Sunday.

Rompin district officer, Datuk Syed Ahmad Fuad Syed Taha said as at 1pm, 101 victims from 25 families from the district were relocated to the Leban Chondong hall.

"The areas involved are Kampung Leban Chondong, Kampung Gading, Kampung Rantau Panjang and Kampung Tebu Hitam. "The victims were evacuated this morning when the water level rose due to continuous rain since Sunday," he told reporters here Tuesday.

He said all agencies including the Welfare Department, police and the Fire and Rescue Department were now on full alert to extend assistance.

"This is because we expect the number of flood victims to increase due to continuous rain and a major high tide phenomenon two days ago," he said. - Bernama
