Telco contractor to hang for murder of cafe owner and worker


KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here found a telecommunications contractor guilty for causing the death of a cafe owner and his worker by using home made explosives.

Judge Datuk Su Geok Yiam sentenced Mohd Khayry Ismail, 48, to the gallows after finding him guilty as charged.

Throughout the trial, the prosecution called 40 witnesses to testify while the defence had two witnesses.

Mohd Khayry, a father of six children was charged with causing the death of Ng Siew Hong (she), 51 and Goh Yong Seng, 35, at 2-12-4, Apartment Desa Tun Razak, Blok 2, Jalan 8/ 118B, Desa Tun Razak, Cheras, here between 8am and 8.30am on Aug 29, 2010.

During the incident, the accused was said to have placed a box with two pomelos on it outside the apartment unit which was owned by Ng's business partner and when Goh opened the door and lifted the pomelos, the parcel exploded.

Ng who was nearby, suffered 90 percent burns and died on the same day while Goh succumbed to his injuries two days later.

In the course of the trial, it was revealed that Mohd Khayry had owned Ng money as result of his gambling habit at the internet cafe situated on the ground floor of the apartment. - Bernama
