Utilise IT facilities to earn extra income, retired civil servants told

KUCHING: Retired government servants are urged to fully utilise the information technology (IT) made available by the government to earn some income and not depend solely on their pension.

Housing and Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the government had set up and prepared all sorts of facilities for the people to utilise and develop themselves but many did not realise the effectiveness of IT.

He cited eBay and alibaba.com as some of the most successful online businesses in the world.

“So now that we have the facilities available here, we must utilise them and set up our own eBay or alibaba.com,” he said during the launch of Malaysian Umno Pensioners Club (Kupekmas) and Former Malaysian Customs Officers Association (Perbekas) office cum My1 Tone.XOX service centre at Jalan Ajibah Abol here on Sunday.

With the opening of the centre, Johari hoped for good cooperation between retired government servants and the mobile service provider.

He also hoped the club and association members would make full use of the IT facilities made available by the government and the mobile service provider at the centre.
