Former cop jailed for possessing pangolins

ALOR SETAR: A former police constable was jailed a total of 36 months on three counts of possessing 18 pangolins and a charge of committing cruelty to the protected animals.

Muhammad Norazzuan Ahmad Zahari will, however, only serve 12 months as Sessions Court Judge Rosli Osman ordered the jail terms to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on Sept 22.

Norazzuan, 24, pleaded guilty yesterday.

Rosli jailed him eight months for possessing five pangolins, 10 months for possessing seven immature pangolins and 12 months for possessing six female pangolins without special permits inside the boot of a car.

He jailed Norazzuan six months for committing cruelty to the pangolins by not providing them with food or drinks, confining them in plastic sacks, and causing discomfort and pain to the animals inside the car boot.
