Security guard dies after going amok at cemetery

PETALING JAYA: A 24-year-old security guard died after he allegedly went amok with a metal rod near Taman Perkasa cemetery in Hulu Langat.

It is learnt that C. Sugumar acted wildly while waving a metal rod at bystanders at about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Several police personnel rushed to the scene, tackled Sugumar and proceeded to handcuff him with the help of members of the public.

Sugumar died when he was about to be transported to a patrol car.

This led to allegations that the police as well as some members of the public had beaten up Sugumar while he was handcuffed.

However, Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said:

“The police tackled him but we never beat him up or even condone the public to do so.”

Post-mortem results showed that he had succumbed to a heart illness.

ACP Abdul Rashid said Sugumaran had suffered from a coronary heart disease.

“The post-mortem showed that he did not suffer any other injuries aside from some scratches on his hands and knees when he fell down,” he said.

He said the man had walked for about 2km from Dusun Nanding to Taman Legenda Suria where he fell.

Police would request for an inquest once investigations were completed, he said.
