PETALING JAYA: Tamil film Vishwaroopam, starring popular Indian actor Kamal Hassan, has been removed from local cinemas following a directive from the Home Ministry.

Film distribution company Lotus Fivestar AV's director Datuk R. Ramalingam said the ministry told him to stop screening the movie early Friday.

The film, which opened in Malaysia on Thursday, has played to full cinemas.

The mega-budget movie was banned in Tamil Nadu for two weeks for allegedly being offensive to Muslims.
