Itís been 17 years and Song Sheng is still missing
PETALING JAYA: Seventeen years ago, another family had endured a tragedy similar to that faced by William Yau Zhen Zhong’s family just before the Chinese New Year.
Seven-year-old Tin Song Sheng (pic) was believed to have been abducted from SR(J)K Taman Rasah. He was last seen leaving the school compound with a woman on Jan 12, 1996.
In Song Sheng’s case however, he was never found.
His mother Gan Kim Choo and father Tin Kuwi Dium from Kajang received some 10 calls daily but many were from people who tried to cash in on the family’s misery.
“There were also calls from people who recommended which medium or bomoh we should consult.
“They gave us the names and addresses of mediums from all over the country,” Tin was quoted as saying after his son’s disappearance was highly publicised in the media.
A couple was later arrested for trying to trick Tin into paying money for his son’s return.
The police set up a special team at the district level to monitor developments regarding the missing boy while several companies set up hotlines for information on Song Sheng.
It was later reported that a 14-year-old girl had called the Pos Malaysia hotline, claiming to have spotted the boy begging near a low-cost housing scheme in Pontian, Johor.
However, the girl hung up before the Pos Malaysia employee manning the hotline could get her name or address.
Even the South Thailand police extended a helping hand in case he had been taken across the border.
However, to this day, Song Sheng has not been found.
