Muhyiddin: Government to go ahead with Langat 2

SABAK BERNAM: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reiterated that the Federal Government will go ahead with the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant Project (Langat 2) without the Selangor Government's approval.

“In a month or two, we will go ahead with Langat 2 for the benefit of the people and not for the Mentri Besar or the Opposition,” he said at the 1Malaysia People Friendly programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dr Abdul Latiff near here yesterday.

The Langat 2 project is already 29 months behind schedule due to the Opposition-led Selangor Government's refusal to approve it.

He said the state government was free to restructure its water industry as to how they see fit.

“We don't want to stop your restructuring efforts but there are already agreements between the state government and the water concessionaires made previously, so whatever the takeover is, it has to be a willing-buyer, willing-seller scenario.

“It is not an easy task negotiating and taking over four companies but if the state government wants to, let them,” said Muhyiddin.
