Neighbours in shock over death of William

SHAH ALAM: Neighbours of the Yau family are in shock over the news of little William's death.

One of them, who declined to be named, said nobody wanted to believe that the body of a boy found in the Klang river on Thursday was William's.

“I thought his father had calls during the first few days and he looked happy and confident that William was alive.

“I did not expect the child to be dead. It is such a sad thing to happen,” he said.

He recalled seeing how William's father Yau Kok Kang, 32, would always watch over his children like a hawk as they played in front of the house.

Bad news: William’s neighbours (from left) Mohd Hafiz Ahmad Razali, 10, Muhammad Khairul Hazeem Abdul Rashid, 13, and Mohd Amirul Hakimi Abd Halim, eight, reading news about him. “He would never let them stray too far. They would always be by his side,” he added.

Another neighbour, who only wished to be called Ann, 38, said that thinking about William's death brought tears to her eyes.

“I imagine it will be harder for his parents to speak about their loss. We were all hoping that the body found in the river was not his,” she said.
