SWP to announce its choices in one month’s time

KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party’s full list of candidates for the general election will be announced in a month, the latest in early March.

Party president Larry Sng said their election committee, headed by deputy president George Lagong, was still fine-tuning the list.

“But we won’t be announce the list too late so that candidates will have time to campaign.”

To date, the only confirmed candidate was Wong Judat, who will contest in Julau, he said.

“We have endorsed Wong’s candidacy for Julau during our supreme council meeting,” he told reporters after chairing the meeting here yesterday.

Sng said SWP would only contest in six constituencies presently held by PRS. They are Selangau, Ulu Rajang, Lubok Antu, Kanowit, Sri Aman and Julau.

“We stick to our stand in contesting in six constituencies.”

On a police report lodged against Radio Kenyalang by PRS Youth recently, Sng said as far as SWP was concerned, the party did not breach any law.

“What’s there to comment? If we’re implicated in the police report, let the police do their investigation.

“I’ve not seen the police report and I don’t want to comment on something unnecessary,” he said.

Besides, Sng said, there was no law in the country stopping a shortwave radio from broadcasting internationally.
