Nik Aziz: Nasharudin is history, free to join other parties
By SYED AZHAR
KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat says he couldn't care less if former deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa joins other political parties.
He said Nasharudin's expulsion from the Syura Council would not pose a problem or challenge to the party, adding that Nasharudin "can be considered history."
The Kelantan Mentri Besar likened Nasharudin's case to that of a divorced man who was free to look for a "new wife."
“I have said it before that when a couple go for divorce it is a separation between the husband and wife, same like partners in a company....they will eventually have to go separate ways after that.
“In Islam we must have 100% discipline in this life and the afterlife and this religion is the only way of saving the world,” he told reporters after launching a workshop on harnessing honey from stingless bee at Kubang Kerian on Tuesday.
PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Harun Taib was reported to have confirmed that Nasharudin has had his Syura Council membership revoked.
It was reported that the decision to revoke Nasharudin's membership was made on Jan 13 at a meeting chaired by PAS spiritual adviser Nik Aziz.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has criticised PAS for removing Nasharudin saying the party did not like to see its members work with UMNO, referring to Nasharudin's recent trip to Gaza with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
"PAS is prioritising politics...they don't like to see Umno people working with PAS people," Dr Mahathir said after launching a book on the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA).
Dr Mahathir said that it was important for Najib to show a united political front, given his visit to Gaza.
"This shows that even though we have opposition, we work together," he added.
