No one injured after tyre bursts on KL Monorail train

KUALA LUMPUR: Swift action by a driver of the KL Monorail ensured the safety of the passengers after a rubber tyre burst on a Titiwangsa-bound train near the Chow Kit station on Tuesday.

Rizalman Rosli, 37, managed to bring the train, with over 160 passengers inside two coaches, to a halt in the 6.30pm incident.

Another train was dispatched to the scene, which stopped alongside the stranded train to allow the passengers, who included 103 women, 60 men and a child, to board.

The train proceeded to the Chow Kit station where the passengers got off at about 7.30pm. "The evacuation process went smoothly. The air-conditioning on the train was operational throughout the evacuation,” said KL Monorail chief operating officer Abdul Hadi Amran.

Hadi said alternative transportation would be provided at the affected stations until the full service resumed.

The blown out tyre was repaired at the Chow Kit station before the train was "towed" to the depot.
