KUANTAN: The trekker who went missing in Gunung Benom, Raub, has been found alive in the neighbouring district of Jerantut.

Fong Ai Ting, 32, was found by Forestry Department personnel in Ulu Cheka, on the other side of the mountain at about 3.40pm Thursday.

Raub OCPD Supt Wan Mohd Samsudin Wan Osman said Fong only suffered minor injuries and had been sent to the Jerantut Hospital for treatment.

"Her condition is stable. She only had normal injuries such as cuts from thorns," he said when contacted.

Fong, from Kuala Terengganu, had gone trekking with an expedition group of 19 people on Sunday.

The group camped at the peak on Monday night and made their down on Tuesday morning.

However, Fong apparently lost her way and separated from the group while descending the mountain.

A search and rescue operation was mounted on Wednesday with the combined effort of the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Forestry Department and the public.

A reinforcement of nine police personnel, 12 firefighters, two trackers and nine members of the public including four professional climbers were added Thursday.

Supt Wan Mohd Samsudin expressed thanks to the villagers of Sungai Klau, whom he said had helped a lot in the search and rescue effort.
