Cops bust international drug ring, 11 arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: An international drug syndicate was busted with the arrest of 11 members including two women.

After observing the syndicate for weeks, police raided four premises and seized 80kg of heroin worth RM3.2mil.

Federal Narcotics director Comm Datum Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the syndicate was busted when police raided a condominium unit in Subang Jaya where they arrested a Nigerian man.

He said a check in the unit revealed 78kg of heroin in packages.

“The suspect led police to three other houses in Puchong and Damansara the same day,” he told a press conference.

In the raids, police nabbed seven Nigerian men, a Mongolian man and two Mongolian women.

Initial investigation revealed that the Mongolian women were believed to have been used as drug mules to smuggle out drugs from Malaysia.

Comm Noor Rashid said the modus operandi of the syndicate was by smuggling in the drugs in a container carrying dates from Pakistan via ports to avoid police detection.

The syndicate’s activities came to light with the help of the Pakistani Customs department.
