Police quiz Ibrahim Ali, Roslan Kassim over Bible-burning rumour

GEORGE TOWN: Police recorded statements from Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali and information chief Roslan Kassim on Wednesday over rumours that a 'festival' was being organised in the Bible-burning issue.

Police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the investigation report on the matter was ready to be handed to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

He said rumours had spread that the 'bible-burning' gathering would be held at Padang Bandaran, Bagan Luar, Butterworth, near here, on Sunday.

"Police recorded statements from both the leaders here yesterday and they were cooperative," he told reporters at the Penang police headquarters here Thursday.

On Tuesday, a priest lodged a police report in Penang over the distribution of anonymous pamphlets at a church, advertising a "festival" to burn the Malay language bibles, at a field.

Police assured that there would be no such gathering to burn Bibles at Padang Bandaran, Bagan Luar because such rumours were spread by some irresponsible people.

Abdul Rahim said apart from the two leaders, statements were also recorded from a number of individuals to assist investigations.
