Cops question five people about sexually abused children in Kerian
By EDMUND NGO
IPOH: Police have recorded the statements of five people that were alleged to have sexually abused two children in Kerian.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan clarified that the two girls were aged five and seven, and not six and eight as previously reported.
"The police report was lodged in Kerian by the mother, a saleswoman in her late 30s, on Dec 27 and we have recorded her statement too.
"Some parties have claimed that the police did not investigate the case, which is a terrible accusation because we have to look from every angle before conducting any arrests.
"Furthermore there are more than one person implicated thus we need to proceed with discretion and not based on the two children's claims alone," he said in a press conference Friday.
DCP Mohd Shukri said among those who have been picked up on Thursday to record their statements were the girl's aunt, 43, a waitress, their cousins, 24 and 17, their grandfather, 70, unemployed and another aunt, 36, a computer teacher.
"The two children are under observation in Taiping Hospital at the moment, while we wait for a child psychologist from Penang to communicate with them and record their statements.
"We will need to wait for the child psychologist's report before proceeding with our investigations," he said, adding that the girl's father, who has divorced their mother, was in Kuala Lumpur and his statements were not recorded yet.
DCP Mohd Shukri stressed that they could not clarify the claims of the girls being fed with drugs and sexually abused.
"There is no such information at the moment, we have to verify the claims first,” he said.
It was reported that the two sisters alleged to have been abused for several years by their grandfather, father, aunt and uncle.
Their mother only found out recently after they complained of pain in the lower part of their bodies to a relative.
DCP Mohd Shukri said the case was being investigated under Section 376(b) of the Penal Code for rape.
