India to confer award on ARA group chief Ravindran


NEW DELHI: The Indian government will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award on Tan Sri Ravindran Menon, ARA Group of Companies group executive and All Malaysia Malayalee Association president.

The award will be conferred on him by Indian president Pranab Mukherjee at the 11th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Overseas Indians' Day), at Kochi on Jan 9, said a statement Friday.

This award is conferred by the Indian government on persons of Indian origin, non-resident Indians or organisations/institutions established and run by non-resident Indians or persons of Indian origin who have made significant contributions in their fields and for building closer links between India, the overseas Indian community and their country of residence.

Ravindran is the fifth eminent Malaysian of Indian origin to receive the award after Tan Sri Ajit Singh (2011), Tan Sri G. Vadiveloo (2009), Tan Sri Dr K.R. Somasundram (2007), and Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu (2003). - Bernama
