Bukit Mertajam restaurant damaged in explosion
BUKIT MERTAJAM: An explosion damaged a restaurant at the Gemilang Business Centre in Jalan Song Ban Kheng here Friday.
According to the restaurant owner, identified only as Low, a worker who was staying at an apartment about 250m away alerted him of the incident about 5pm.
He said when he arrived at the scene, he found a sliding door ripped off, with residue of the explosion scattered in the vicinity.
"The explosion also damaged four tables located near the sliding door. I do not know the motive of the (bomb) attack.
"As far as I am concerned, I do not have business rivalry," Low, in his 40s, told reporters.
He estimated the damage at RM5,000.
The restaurant, which has been in operation for a year, was open for business as usual from 11am to midnight.
Low lodged a report at the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters.
