Woman and grandson charged with having drugs
MALACCA: A 71-year-old woman and her grandson have been charged at the magistrate court’s here with possession of 2.3g of heroin.
The woman Norma Hamid and Shaharuddin Mohd Zin, 29, were alleged to have committed the offence at an unnumbered house in Sungai Udang here at about 12.30pm on Thursday.
They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years and whipping.
Shaharudin was also charged with possession of another 0.3g of the same drug at the same location, time and place.
He faces five years’ jail or a fine not exceeding RM100,000, or both.
Both pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. Magistrate Ida Rahayu Sharif allowed bail of RM1,000 for Norma and RM4,000 for Shaharudin with one surety and fixed Feb 19 for re-mention.
