PETALING JAYA: Tropical storm Sonamu is not expected to hit the east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia, the National Security Council announced Tuesday.

Based on latest information supplied by the Meteorological Department, the council said in a statement that the warning of heavy downpours and strong winds was lifted as of 8.35pm Monday.

However, a council spokesperson said they were still monitoring developments in Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan.

"Members of the public are advised to stay vigilant on the possibility of strong winds and rough seas along the coast," he said.

Latest information on the weather can be obtained from the department's website or hotline (03-79678116).
