KUALA LUMPUR: Organisers of the planned gathering at Merdeka Stadium this Saturday are expecting a trouble-free rally, with police facilitating it.

PAS deputy president Datuk Mohamad Sabu, who is organising chairman of the Kebangkitan Rakyat gathering, said that there would be no march to Merdeka Stadium.

“Participants will make their way to the city on their own and gather at the stadium from 2pm to 5pm,” he told reporters outside Bukit Aman after meeting Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar to discuss about Saturday's plans.

However, Mohamad said that organisers have not received any word from the stadium management if would be allowed to gather there.

He said they would wait for a response until 1pm Wedneday and would announce an alternative plan if no permission was received at a press conference at PAS headquarters at 4pm.

Nine others representatives from Pakatan and NGOs were also present at the meeting, including PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, DAP national election preparatory committee member Liew Chin Tong and Maria Chin Abdullah.

Meanwhile, city police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said police would inform road users about the traffic situation once they come up with a plan.
